Nancy Foster, PhD

Nancy Foster, Ph.D., is collaborating with Dr. David Alter at the Institute for Brain-Behavior Integration, a subsidiary of Partners in Healing.

Specializations: Dr. Foster specializes in complex neuropsychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults including ADHD, learning challenges, autism spectrum disorders, and traumatic brain injuries, as well as the impact of trauma on daily functioning. She places an emphasis on highlighting individual strengths as well as helping people to understand how their neurocognitive challenges impact their academic abilities, job performance, and interpersonal relationships.  She believes a thorough evaluation:

  • Addresses emotional, behavioral, academic and professional
  • Connects brain functioning with day-to-day challenges
  • Identifies individual strengths
  • Develops holistic and comprehensive treatment plan
  • Helps individuals to rise to their fullest potential

Therapy Services: Dr. Foster also provides individual therapy to adults. She helps clients gain a better understanding about the interplay between past and present life events and how they shape a person’s self-perception and impact their coping skills. Dr. Foster’s work focuses on helping her clients address the guilt and shame that we often carry from traumatic childhood experiences into our adult relationships. Healing, restoration, and transformation are matters of the head and the heart working together. She places an emphasis on helping clients identify their personal strengths and how to use them to make lasting changes in their lives. Her therapeutic interests include:

  • Adult children of alcoholics
  • Treating depression and anxiety
  • Parenting skills with special needs children
  • Divorce recovery
  • Problems with spirituality
  • ADHD and its impact on day-to-day functioning
  • Enhancing study skills in high school, college-bound, and students already in college

Teaching Experience: Dr. Foster has lectured widely on a variety of topics including:

  • The role of neuropsychological evaluation in achieving higher levels of academic success and improved day-to-day functioning
  • The relationship between learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD
  • The complexity of dyslexia and the comorbidity of learning disabilities
  • Trauma, attachment, and language deficits in children and adolescents identified with emotional and behavioral disorders

Educational Background: Dr. Foster completed her undergraduate studies and her Master’s degree in counseling psychology through Bethel University. She received her PhD in clinical psychology with a neuropsychology concentration from Fielding Graduate University.
