Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is the name for a condition involving dysregulation of gut functioning. The condition causes a variety of problems, including pain, bloating, cramping, and alterations in bowel functioning (i.e., diarrhea or constipation or both.) While the condition is not associated with clear-cut evidence of diseases of the digestive tract, it remains a serious problem that can produce major disruptions in day-to-day functioning.
